The Friend’s Book Sale was a HUGE success!
A very fun day with folks lining up outside the door before we were open. We sold many, many books. The Board was happy to meet Curtis DeClue, a Camano Island resident who recently joined the Board of Directors for the Sno-Isle Libraries Foundation. The Friends give a BIG SHOUT OUT TO ALL THE VOLUNTEERS who helped pull this sale together. We could not have had this sale without their generous donation of time and effort. And thank you to all the Friends and community members who donated books throughout the year and purchased books. We use donated books for book sales like this and also for the Friends Book Sale Corner located inside the Library. The Friends owe a special debt of gratitude to Kaye Sodt who generously donates space in her garage to store books. Thank you Kaye! All proceeds from book sales fund programs and events at the library free to all ages throughout the year. Our library is the heart of our community, well loved, well used and well supported.”
Recent Library Programs
March programs/events funded by the Friends. Our community outreach was expanded through our partnership with the library and the Sno-Isle Foundation.
– Learn to Make 30 Minute Mozzarella was the most attended with 70 people.
– Megafloods of Lava and Water in Eastern Washington
– Un-American Activities: The Blacklist Era and Hollywood was a Humanities Washington program. The Red Scare that erupted in the 1940s allowed the House Committee on Un-American Activities to grab headlines by parading prominent Hollywood figures before the cameras. The weather kept attendance down but the presenter was asked to come back for an afternoon program.
– Meditative Watercolor Line Drawing was a SilverKite workshop in partnership with the Sno-Isle Foundation.
– The Friends supplied snacks for two programs: Home schoolers Meet & Greet and Construction Zone, a kid’s program.
– Camano Preparedness Group: What’s in Your Emergency Kit?
Classrooms visit the library …
Camano Island Library Friends fund transportation costs to bring third, fourth and fifth grade classrooms to the Camano Island Library. The children meet the librarians, are given a tour of the stacks, shown how to check out a book, do activities and shown how to look up information on the Sno-Isle Library website. It is a very fun visit, one loved by the library staff. One of the Friends’ goals is to put a library card into the hand of every child on Camano Island. At the end of the visit, children leave with a library card. Reading is the foundation from which all other learning springs. By fostering a love of reading, we create life long learners and an educated populace.
The Friends hosted a booth …
at Camano Commons for the Camano Island Studio Art Tour over Mother’s Day weekend. A new tent with a display showed statistics on the Library, how the Friends support the Library and community by funding programs free to all ages. Books were offered for sale and brought in $143! A fun three days talking to people about the Friends. Thank you to all who stopped to say hello, buy books and learn more about the Friends.
